Using Blueberries All Year Round

Written by Denise Sawyer on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Not sure how to use your frozen berries? It couldn't be simpler. Frozen blueberries work great in many of the recipes you'll find here on the Georgia Blueberry Commission's website, including frozen yogurt, muffins, blueberry popsicles, and blueberries in syrup. You don't even need to thaw them! Drop frozen blueberries directly into your favorite muffin or pancake recipe. It is also easy to make fabulous syrups by cooking frozen blueberries. Try my blueberry syrup over homemade waffles, pancakes, or french toast. You won't be disappointed. Looking for a more savory experience? Try making my recipe for blueberry sauce over pork tenderloin. It's just what you are looking for.

In the winter time local produce is scarce. I can't tell you how glad I have been to have some fresh, local blueberries in my freezer to make something to enjoy in the dead of winter. A blueberry cobbler can really lift those winter blues! Grab some blueberries while you still can and put away at least a quart or two for a day when you're stuck indoors and need your spirits lifted!

I completely agree with you! I love having bags of frozen blueberries available during the winter. Especially now that I've been diagnosed with diabetes, it's hard to find fruits that are kind to my blood sugar. Blueberries are perfect!
